My children are having a Skippyjon Jones moment. Do you know about El Skippito? Basically, he's a Siamese cat who thinks he's a Spanish-speaking Chihuahua. He goes on all sorts of imaginary Mexican adventures, much to his mother's chagrin (she just wants him to be happy in his own kitty cat fur).
These books are really fun to read, because I get to do my best Penelope-Cruz-speaking-English (Mama Junebug's voice) and then I switch to Antonio-Banderas-speaking-English (all the other characters). Even though they're from Spain, not Mexico. And we all get a kick out of Mama Junebug's nicknames for Skippyjon: Mr. Fuzzypants, Sugar Beet, Mr. Doodlepaws.
It's very endearing.
I call my my kids: Honey Bear, Sugar, Darling, Lovebug, Cookie, Peanut, Peanut Butter, and Mister. And they're each the first letter of their first name (because two syllables are just too much sometimes, I guess!).
Personally, I don't really have a nickname. Do you? And what do you call your kids besides their given names?

I've used: sweetness, baby, cranky pants, Mr. Know-it-all, wise guy etc etc etc.
ReplyDeleteI love "cranky pants"!
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of nicknames in our house, especially for the baby, when there is one! I call my youngest daughter a bunch of silly things like, bizzy, bizzoo, Maiza (her name is Maya), or just "pretty". Not sure what it is about babies, it was the same when my two oldest were small! My husband is funny because he never uses the same name twice. He will often call our older children all kinds of names he's read or heard on tv or the radio, especially famous athletes. :)
ReplyDeleteLove it all, Megan! Nicknames are just irresistible, as you and your husband seem to know well!
